Instructor:
How can we make good choices? How should we relate to others? How do we mark important moments in life? And what does it mean to be fully human? Chinese philosophers called the answers to these questions the Way (Dao 道). In this course we will read thinkers texts closely and carefully to identify how thinkers in China have defined the Way. We will ask where they located the Way—in human society, in the natural world, or in the cosmos—and consider how they thought humans could best apprehend truths about their world. Alongside our readings we will also engage in practical exercises to explore how their insights might translate into our own times—and, in turn, how they might help us find our Way.
