I’ve spent the last four years as Associate Dean and thus out of the classroom. I’ve missed it terribly. I can think no better way to get back to teaching than becoming a College Fellow and I look forward to reinvigorating my teaching by working in the Engagements. As with everyone else I have spent the last couple of years living through the Covid pandemic. In addition to the pandemic being a global catastrophe, as a historian of disease it’s been fascinating. Before leaving the classroom and my research for the dean’s office I routinely taught a course on pandemics and epidemics in world history. I’ve also written two books on epidemic disease. Thinking about how epidemics and pandemics have differently affected people worldwide is an ideal way to engage difference.
