I study the history and literature of Britain in the long nineteenth century with a focus on theatre and the novel. My work meets at the crossroads of history and literature and wrestles with the ways fiction and reality are constructed across time with a focus on affect, genre, visual culture and aesthetics. I am guided in both my research and teaching by the principles of critical inquiry, close reading, and open dialogue, finding in them the building blocks for creating well-rounded and ever-curious scholars.
