Ishani Saraf
I am broadly interested in what people do with different kinds of wastes and what this tells us about the worlds we inhabit. My research studies aspects of the transformation and trade of metallic and machinic discards in translocal spaces in India and the Indian Ocean where I explore questions of postcolonial capitalism, urban belonging, material practices, situated knowledges, and environmental governance. I am excited to join the Engagements Program to teach and learn in a collaborative and interdisciplinary setting. I look forward to the heady mix of unsettlement, curiosity, and passion that emerges while learning together.
