I’m a political and cultural sociologist who studies conservative politics in the United States. While my research focuses on the cultural practices through which conservatives produce knowledge or come to see particular information as being truthful or trustworthy, I’ve also become increasingly disgruntled with the world we live in. During my more curmudgeonly moments, which I’m told, some students have described as my being in my reputation’s era, I’m nearly consumed by two thoughts: we and our children deserve better; and, if we want something better, we must be the ones to do the work to get there. Through Engagements, I want to work through big seemingly intractable questions. I want to challenge our assumptions about why the world is this way. I also want to consider ways to navigate this world that align with our principles and get us closer to the world we aspire to live within.
