Jennie K. Williams is an historian focused on American slavery. Her upcoming book, Oceans of Kinfolk: the Coastwise Traffic of Enslaved People to New Orleans, 1820-1860, is a study of the primary artery of the maritime domestic slave trade. She is also the author of the Oceans of Kinfolk Database at SlaveVoyages.org. Dr. Williams completed her PhD at Johns Hopkins University in 2020 and graduated from the University of Virginia in 2008. As a College Fellow, Dr. Williams will teach a course on the ethics and utility of historical “big data.”
